Useful Tips

The key to an enjoyable and rewarding visit to the Dampier Peninsula is to be prepared.  Fuel and stores can be purchased but check on locations and opening times below.  Always book accommodation in advance (there is no free camping).  Dogs are not allowed.  Alcohol cannot be purchased anywhere on the Dampier Peninsula. 

ATM's and Credit Cards

Some of the stores on the Dampier Peninsula have credit card facilities but most operators take cash only.  If you are relying on credit card or eftpos please call ahead to see if it is accepted.

Telephones

Limited Telstra CDMA/Next G coverage is available at Cape Leveque, Lombadina and One Arm Point, as well as a few other areas.  Check with your local service provider for full details.  Most pay phones in the area require pre-paid calling cards which can be purchased from the community stores.

Eating

Takeaway lunches are available at Beagle Bay, Lombadina, Kooljaman, Djarindjin and Ardyaloon.  Kooljaman has a restaurant which serves alfresco lunch and dinner as well as takeaway meals.  Phone ahead to confirm opening times.  Many accommdodation providers and campgrounds provide meals for guests - check when you are booking your stay for the latest information.

Fishing and Tides

The Dampier Peninsula offers fantastic opportunities for fishing but be wary of extreme tides that are experienced in the area – tide charts are available at the Broome Visitor Centre.  Note: Add one hour to Broome tide charts for the tide times at Cape Leveque.  Add up to another two hours for tide times on the King Sound side of the Dampier Peninsula.
